Worlds Most Expensive Blog Sold for $15 Million Dollars

Dont get surprised its not April Fools day and iam not kidding, its a real truth that a 600 pages wordpress based blog has been sold for a real surprising figure of 70 Crore [15 Millon Dollars]. Lets read more about this blog which should be given a Guiness World Record!

Bankaholic Logo

Blog Name : Bankaholic
Deals in : Finance & Banking Industry
Total Staff : 1 Writer - Johns Wu, Finance Writer - Mark P. Cussen
Income Options : Google Adsense on the wordpress blog’s sidebar , Credit Card Affiliates links used with the posts like best credit cards and i came to know he was getting huge conversions from these , Financial Products Affiliates like BankRate Partner Program under different posts.
Search Engine Rankings :
The Blog has got Sitelinks for multiple keywords because he has setup different sub domains for different categories. Check out the sitelinks/search results for the keyword CD Rates and you can find that the first result is from bankaholics followed by 8 sitelinks related to the same. Other highly searched keywords i found this website ranking was for Money Market Rates, Savings Account Rates & Bank Interest Rates. All these keywords helps out bankaholic get targetted sales/lead conversions.

Traffic Stats : The blog has got a very bad alexa rank which stands at 42k. A very bad number when you compare it to the amount the blog was sold for.

Sale Details : Source - Financial info site BankRate is expanding its financial product listings, as it’s acquiring Bankaholic, which provides info on deposits, savings accounts, and money market accounts. The company will pay $12.4 million up front, with another $2.5 million possible earnout over the next 12 months.
Conclusion : Even if the new owners are able to make up 500k revenue from this blog without any costs then it would take them another 8 years to make up the same amount of money. May be the amount paid is not for the traffic it currently gets but for the domain name + search engine rankings + authority in the domain name + single word domain name which is easy for branding and also bankRate would not have to share any revenues with bankaholics.com if they own it. Another reason would be a high amount of Aweber subscribers who would have converted in the last 2 years resulting in a good base for promoting new financial products in the members list. Anyway this kind of sales are not seen every other day and we hope to see many more like these soon.
