Description

Manhunt is perhaps the most violent, amoral video game ever made, and it's entirely unapologetic about it. Produced by the same team that created Grand Theft Auto, it sees you cast as a death-row inmate reprieved from the chair to take part in a sick game run by a snuff-movie producer.

You're forced to sneak around a series of maze-like levels killing "hunters" and SWAT-team members as you go, using such unsavoury methods as suffocating them with plastic bags and cutting their throats with shards of glass. This is primarily a stealth-based title, using many of the same techniques as Metal Gear Solid--you shuffle around walls, peer round corners and use noise to attract and distract the enemy.

This aspect of the game works extremely well thanks to the superb graphics and sound. These create an intense level of tension, so that when you mistakenly knock into an abandoned shopping trolley and alert a hunter, it's really quite terrifying. The combat, just as in GTA, is handled rather less well--but it's not anywhere bad enough to ruin the whole game.


The story revolves around a man on Death Row named James Earl Cash, sentenced to death by lethal injection due to a grievous crime, the nature of which is never explained. An exceedingly wealthy former Hollywood director named Starkweather, who runs a seedy community in an impoverished town named Carcer City, bribes the doctors to inject Cash with a powerful sedative instead.

The Director, as he likes to call himself, creates and distributes snuff films through a company named Valiant Video Enterprises. He sets up Cash as his latest star using the corrupt Carcer City police force, as well as his personal "Cerberus" guards, to corral Cash into butchering Carcer's local gangs on camera to make violent, visceral, underground snuff films.

Legendary: The Box is a first-person shooter in which you'll assume the role of a thief who, at the game's outset, unwittingly opens Pandora's Box inside a New York museum and unleashes all manner of monsters on the world. It's been about four months since we last saw Legendary: The Box in action, and at that point we were treated to demos of the game's first level and another set inside a cathedral. Our recent meeting with Spark Unlimited was long overdue but well worth the wait because we were afforded an opportunity to play through a pretty substantial demo.

Set in an as-yet unnamed small English city that has clearly seen better days, the demo tasked us with fighting our way through cobbled streets toward a cathedral that may or may not be the same one we saw the interior of at E3 earlier this year. For much for the demo we were accompanied by a small number of artificial-intelligence-controlled squadmates, but we weren't able to influence their actions in any way. To be perfectly honest, their most important role seemed to be dying in front of us in a variety of occasionally entertaining ways.

Werewolves will attack just about anything that moves in Legendary: The Box.

For the most part, our colleagues were being killed by the same werewolves that we saw at E3, and they attack both unpredictably and quickly. When they're not busy tearing your colleagues and members of the evil Black Order to shreds, Legendary's werewolves like to run around and scale walls, which can make them tough targets to keep in your sights. In addition to the garden-variety werewolves that we were up against, the demo featured a number of the more powerful alpha werewolves. The alphas are colored slightly differently and are larger than the regular werewolves, and they like to position themselves atop buildings and such and then throw chunks of destroyed walls and other debris at you. All of the werewolves can resurrect themselves if their heads are still intact, so decapitation is mandatory.

Our arsenal, although small compared to that which you'll have access to in the finished game, was thankfully more than adequate for the task at hand, and there was no shortage of discarded weapons and ammo to pick up as we progressed through the demo. Our weapons included a submachine gun, which sacrifices accuracy in order to spray bullets all over the place; a shotgun, which is super-effective up close but not very useful at range; and an assault rifle, which represents something of a happy medium between the aforementioned guns and comes equipped with a scope. We also had access to frag grenades and Molotov ~censored~, the latter of which did a great job of setting fire to enemies and environmental objects alike. If you've checked out our previous coverage of Legendary: The Box, you'll know that the protagonist also has the ability to siphon health from fallen enemies using a strange symbol that was burned onto his hand when he touched Pandora's Box. We can now confirm that you're able to siphon health into a reserve as well as into your health bar, which, for example, gives you the option to heal yourself in the middle of a boss battle when there are no corpses around.

Although not a boss battle per se, we had an opportunity to play through such a battle when we encountered our first minotaur. When we encountered said anthropomorphic bovine, it was already doing battle with a handful of Black Order soldiers, but they didn't last long enough against the beast to do any real damage before its attention turned to us. The battle that ensued took place in a small courtyard that might as well have been a gladiatorial arena, given that there was no way for us to escape and that the area seemed purpose-built for the encounter. The minotaur--which will be one of many in the game, we're told--was a very different prospect than the werewolves that we'd been battling previously; it moved relatively slowly, but its attacks were much more powerful, and for the first portion of the encounter it was wielding a Celtic-cross-style gravestone as a club. After throwing the gravestone at us, the minotaur's resorted to charging at us like a bull, and every time we avoided it a wall behind us would take the hit and be visibly damaged. Incidentally, we're told that the minotaur doesn't take any damage when it crashes into walls, so don't expect to beat it just by playing matador.

Playing matador won't do you much good against the minotaur.

The last encounter of the demo pitted us against a large wormlike creature that rose up through the ground and pulled a number of Black Order soldiers down into its hole as we looked on. The worm managed to grab us as well at one point, but we were still able to shoot at it and, thankfully, it released its grip on us shortly before it died. After that, we were rewarded with the obligatory "thanks for playing" screen.

How to Find Free Images To Download ?

Everyone likes a nice graphic, and the eHow Help Guide says images get your article noticed. But if the supply on your computer is limited, and you don't have an image subscription or software, what do you do? Here are some sites you can use to download great images for free.

Step1

Dreamstime.com is a great site for stock photography, but most of its images are for professional use and have to be purchased. However, there is a Free Images section that offers a small selection of nice photos.

Step2

Lending that certain British feel to its pics ("I know it when I see it") are two UK-based sites, FreeFoto.com--with a grand library of images--and freeimages.co.uk.

Step3

I have had a lot of success with FreePhotos.se, one of the you-upload-yours-and-I'll-download-mine sites. It has a good selection among many different categories.

Step4

When anything--including images--is in "the public domain," it means that they can be used by anyone, for any purpose, at any time, for free. That's how a lot of these sites work, including public-domain-photos.com.

Step5

"Public domain" is also the backbone of pdphoto.org. What's cool about it is all the photos are by this one guy, Jon. And they're beautiful. And let me take this opportunity to tell you to read "Warnings," below.

Be sure to rummage around in Stockvault.net. This is a primo site. You'll find plenty to play with here.

Stock.xchng is a cut above due to sheer volume, with a motherlode of photos across all categories--the best selection that I've seen. In my opinion, this site should be your first stop when browsing for images.

How to Find and Delete Duplicate Images and Photographs

Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder will find all similar and duplicate images in a folder and its sub folders. It uses advanced algorithms in order to find similar images in a way that a human does. Due to that fact it can find similar images even if they are in different image formats and sizes.

Select "Visual Compare" method from the drop down list (2).

Note: "CRC32 Checksum" method do not scan images for visual similarity. Using this method you can find only 100% binary equal images. "File Size" method will find duplicates with equal file sizes.

Adjust the "Similarity" spin button with the desired value (3). The default similarity value is 95%. Note: Similarity value is used only when the selected method is "Visual Compare".

Select "New Cache" from "Cache" drop down list (4) or existing cache if you have previously created one. Note: Using image cache files speeds up the first phase of the scanning process. It is recommended to use new cache only on folders you still didn't scan. inside the selected folder.

Find and Delete Duplicate Photographs and Images Press "Start Scan" button (5) After the scanning process is finished the following screen will appear:

Duplicate images are grouped in with different color. Depending on the "Auto Check " settings, the program automatically checks smaller images in every duplicate group. If you un/checked some duplicates by hand, you can always use "Auto Check " button (1)

After checking which files you want to move or delete press "Move Checked Files" (2) or "Delete Checked Files" button (3)

You can delete the checked files to the Recycle Bin if you checked "Delete files to Recycle Bin" option. Otherwise the files will be deleted permanently. You can move the checked files to a custom folder if you adjust "Move checked files to ..." option selecting the destination folder. Duplicates folder structure will be maintained in the selected folder.

From this version the duplicates list supports multiple selection and you can select files using mouse and Ctrl/Shift keys. Note the difference between checked and selected files. You can then delete the selected files from the list and from the hard disk using the Delete key.

How to Fix Explorer.exe Problem In Windows XP When Taskbar Disappears ?

In this article, I will explain simple and easy solution to solve the EXPLORER.EXE problem in Microsoft Windows XP. This problem occurs when the Windows Taskbar and Desktop icons disappear and reappear frequently not allowing the user to perform any task.

THE PROBLEM DESCRIPTION When the computer is booted, everything looks fine initially with all the Desktop icons and the Task bar. The programs appear to be running fine. But all the icons and task bar disappears suddenly. Then it all reappears and this process continues without letting the user to perform any tasks. This problem recurs always when the computer is booted.

THE PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION The above described problem appears due to corrupt EXPLORER.EXE file. This may have happened due to some trojan attack through internet file downloading. The solution in this article deals with solving this problem. However, it is recommended to reinstall Windows XP some time soon.

ACCESSING C:\WINDOWS FOLDER If the task bar is not visible at all, you will need to press Ctrl+Alt+Del key to bring up the taskbar. Go to "New Task" from the menu bar and enter "explorer.exe". You will need to do this several times if your task bar disappears again. Go to "C:\WINDOWS" folder through "My Computer". If accessing the My Computer folder is not possible then you can go to Command prompt by typing "cmd" in the "Run" command line and accessing the "WINDOWS" folder from here.

Step4

COPYING AND RENAMING EXPLORER.EXE File Copy the EXPLORER.EXE (Computer icon) file and paste it in the same folder. A file "Copy of EXPLORER.EXE" will be created in the folder. Now change the file name to your name.exe. For example, I renamed mine to "deshmukh.exe"

Step5

CHANGE REGISTRY - REGEDIT Now go to Start >> Run and type "regedit" and press enter key. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon. In this folder, you will find a sub named "shell". Double click it and rename the "explorer.exe" to "deshmukh.exe"

Step6

RESTART Restart your computer after making this change. Everything will be back to normal without any problems!

Be patient. This could take a while if you haven't done it before so be patient. Once your computer has run the test, it will give you the opportunity to click defragment or even a report. It may tell you it doesn't reccommend that you defragment your files at this time. The lines that you see in the box will actually show you which files are where. The red lines are fragmented, blue is Contiguous, the green are unmovable, and the white space is free space.

How to Determine Origin of Microsoft Files ?

Send a Fax in Vista

You can send a fax directly from your computer using Microsoft VISTA Business, Enterprise or Ultimate editions. If you have Microsoft Home Premium, you will need to purchase supplemental software in order to send faxes. SnappyFax and RKSfax are popular options.

First connect your computer to the phone line using an analog phone cord (the same type of cord you would use to connect your household phone). A digital phone line will not work for sending faxes through VISTA.

Now you're ready to set up your fax settings. Click the green "Start" button at the bottom left corner of your screen, click "All Programs" and then click "Windows Fax and Scan" and choose "Fax."

If this is your first time using the VISTA fax feature, a wizard will appear with step-by-step instructions to guide you through the setup process. If you've previously been using the fax feature through a server or network and which to add a modem, open the "Fax" menu as described in step 2, then select "Tools," "Fax Accounts," and "Add". A Fax Setup Wizard will initiate to allow you to setup your fax modem.

Now you are ready to enter your fax recipient information and begin sending faxes. Select "New Fax" on the toolbar and enter the recipient's name and fax number. VISTA will automatically pull any contact information saved in your Outlook address book when you begin typing an existing contacts name.

Finally, simply write your fax message, add your attachments, and hit "Send." You've saved time and paper by sending your faxes through VISTA.

How Do You Increase Blog Traffic?

Between the internet strategy teleseminar for the San Francisco Writing Conference I did on Monday, the blogging presentation I did for the Oakland branch of Ladies Who Launch on Tuesday, and the consults I had with individual bloggers on Wednesday and Thursday, I've been asked several times this week:

"How do I increase my blog traffic?"

Based on my own experience, and after reading posts about blog traffic by folks like Seth Godin, Darren Rowse of ProBlogger, and others, here is a list of tips I've compiled:

• Post regularly.
• Link to other bloggers in your posts.
• Comment on other blogs.
• Have a blogroll.
• Make it easy to comment. It's ok to have comment moderation, but don't make people register.
• Allow readers to email posts to other people.
• Enable subscription to your rss feed with Feedburner.
• Enable subscription by email with Feedblitz.
• Include images or graphics with every post to catch the reader's eye. Blogs are a visual medium.
  
• Add your blog URL to your email signature.
• Tell Google you have a blog.
• Tell Technorati you have a blog.
• Write titles with phrases that people are searching for (i.e. How to Bake a Cake).
• Write about current events.
• Ask a question in your title.
• Post a list (i.e. Ten Ways to Frost a Cake).
• Provide a way for people to easily share and bookmark your posts by using something like AddThis or Add to Any.
  
• Twitter.
• Bookmark your posts in del.icio.us, and other social bookmarking services.
• Try writing shorter posts (200-300 words). That's about how many words the average person can read in a minute.

How to Make a Solar Cell Phone Charger

From http://www.2pointhome.com A little soldering is all it takes to make this cool little emergency cell phone charger. Keep it in the glove box of your car, in case you ever get stranded in the woods and start to hear banjo music! You might be able to find the mini solar panels at a store that sells science or electronics equipment; otherwise you can order them online. Please note, you'll also be cutting the wire on the cell phone charger, so make sure it's not the only one you have! You can often find cheap chargers at discount stores like Big Lots -- it doesn't matter if it's AC or car compatible, since you'll only be using the end that plugs in your phone.

Step1

Cut wires & tubing Take the 2 solar power panels and cut all four wires to about 1" in length. Cut 1/4" of plastic off of the tip of each wire with the wire stripper so copper wires are exposed. This exposed wire is called a 'lead.' Cut the small heat shrink tubing into four equal pieces (1" each). Slide the small heat shrink tubing onto both black wires.

Step2

Solder solar panel leads Using a toothpick, paint leads with flux on a red wire from one solar panel, and a black wire from the other solar panel. Put those two leads together, and solder using your piece of solder and the soldering iron.

Step3

Heat-shrink tubing Slide small heat shrink tubing over the leads you just soldered together. Heat the tubing with heat gun just enough for it to shrink.

Step4

Cut phone charger wire Cut off the wire from your old charger to about 2.5 feet and strip off 2.5" of outer plastic from the loose end. Cut 1/4" off of each of the inside wires to make leads. Slide the full length of the large heat shrink tubing onto this main wire for later use in Step 6.

Step5

Flux, solder and heat-shrink loose leads On your main wire, slide a piece of small heat shrink tubing onto the red wire. Flux all loose leads of main wire as well as the solar panels with the toothpick. Solder red leads from main wire and solar panels together. Repeat with black wires. Slide heat shrink tubings over these soldered leads and use heat gun to shrink.

Step6

Test charger Test the charger by connecting it to a phone under bright light.

Step7

Heat-shrink solar panel leads On your main wire, slide large heat shrink tubing over the two soldered leads which connect to the solar panels. Use the heat gun to shrink the tubing.

Step8

Tape and close On the back of the solar panels, cover the two brass rivets with double-sided tape (so they don't make contact with the Altoids tin.) Tape the two solar panels on the inside lid of the tin. Tuck the main wire into the case and close. Go somewhere sunny (Florida is nice) and charge it up! If you spend a lot of time on the internet, chances are you have already made several friends, unless your personality is such that you created “cyber-enemies” instead. Either way, here are a few simple tips on how to create a network of internet friends.

Start an online forum. Start an internet forum on a topic of your choice. Maybe a "Complaints" forum where people can get loads of garbage off their chest. Just imagine how much good you will do for heart disease and hypertension!!

How to Create a Free Website

You have a Blog, a photo stream or maybe some crazy-only you can make-products you want to sell. Perhaps you want to showcase yourself, your music or your professional services. Maybe you just want a free website! Here are some of my favorite places to go for a free website!

Step1

Research the best free website creators that are right for you. Which host will provide the file space you need and the capacity you want? Who offers the best options when it comes to function and capability?

My personal favorite is Weebly (www.weebly.com). I have two websites through them! You get two free websites (you either have to already own the domain name or you can buy one through them) before you have to upgrade to a Pro account. It’s free! You can add Google Ad sense in seconds and create an UNLIMITED number of pages! That’s right…you can have a HUNDRED pages if your heart desires. You can have unlimited Blogs and it’s simple to add a photo gallery or stream from your flikr account. The next one is Freewebs.com. This is my next suggestion. They have over 300 templates, forums and photo editing. Come to think of it, they actually offer way more than Weebly…but I have to pay my dues to my “first” right? Anyways, they also have chat rooms, advanced HTML options (I’m getting a little turned on, aren’t you?) and a member e-mail list (oh my gosh where have you been?). Okay, try out Freewebs first guys and girls…they totally rocked my world just now.

Next on my list is Doodlekit.com. The cool thing about Doodle is that you can choose which language you want your website to be in and they also hook you up with a newsletter creator (something I desperately need…have no idea why I went with anything else). They also help you out with SEO (search engine optimization) and bless you with IP addresses of each visitor and other fantastic statistics about your website. They also make room for a more advanced internet user with XHTML and HTML options. The coolest thing is that they allow you to create an alias e-mail address that will forward any e-mail to your real one. They are a real competitor with Freewebs in my opinion. Now for the bad news (sniff sniff). Most of these featurs will cost you extra. I know, I know! I got your hopes up...I'm sorry! They do offer a free service but also offer great "pay a little extra" features. Just make sure you do a little digging before signing up.
