Easily Understand Computer Networks

Here is a guide on what computer networks are, how it works, and why they are important!

Step1
Know that computer networks are groups of computers that are connected to allow for the exchanging of information across each unit, and in some cases to work as one cohesive body.
Step2
Realize that these networks can allow computers to share printers (ex. classroom), servers, programs, displays, and other forms of peer-to-peer technology. Computer networks can range from smaller areas such as a single room to entire college campuses.
Step3
Understand that computer networks can be physically connected in a single room, or connected via wireless technologies (ex. Bluetooth) to allow for a vast infinite space between each individual computer. This allows for great flexibility and power. Some other connections include coaxial cables and optic fiber (very fast connection lines).
Step4
Know that some networks are even used for massive computations and research. The Playstation 3, for example, requests its owners to allow its network to use your system's computer when its not being used to help benefit various causes, and by using thousands of computers the computational power involved can be off the charts!
Step5
Realize that computer networks are vital in 21st century information technology and communication. Many aspects of our everyday life are run by computer networks, from the public switched telephone networks to our television subscriptions (ex. Comcast) to military technologies and nuclear power.
